OMG and BPTrends Announce Business Process Management Case Study Competition
Competition Open to Organizations in all Industries Including Government
That Have Completed Successful BPM Projects

Needham, MA, USA - September 18, 2008 - The Object Management Group™ and BPTrends are proud to announce the Business Process Management (BPM) Case Study Competition. The competition is open to organizations of all sizes, including government agencies that demonstrate an outstanding understanding of BPM. For more information and to submit a case study, visit http://www.bpmroundtable.org/cs-pr.

The goal of the BPM Case Study Competition is to highlight business success stories and lessons learned to provide proof points and insights for other organizations considering or pursuing BPM adoption. To qualify for the competition, the BPM project must be complete with demonstrated business results.

"We know that BPM delivers value, especially standards-based recognition, precise definition, storage, reuse and optimization of business processes. It's always helpful to see how others have accomplished the move to a more rigorous approach to business modeling and optimization, however, and this competition helps bring together the best lessons - the best practices - to make the transition rapid and successful," said Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D., chairman & CEO, Object Management Group.

"There are lots of companies that are just waiting for some good case studies to convince them of the value of BPM. We hope that companies will submit examples of successful BPM efforts that we can use to educate others about the value of this important approach to management," said Paul Harmon, executive editor and founder, BPTrends. "Many CEOs have been quoted as saying that they want to make their organizations more 'process focused.' Hopefully we'll be able to make some awards that will illustrate just what's involved in becoming more process focused and what some of the specific benefits are."

Entries will be judged on the complexity of the business problem addressed, the ROI/Business Value achieved (Agility/Innovation/Flexibility), the level and sophistication of the cross-organizational collaboration (Business/Technical) and the usage of BPM approaches and supporting technology. There will be three awards:

  • Best Overall BPM Application
This award will go to the application that demonstrates the best use of current BPM concepts and techniques to solve a company's problem. The solution can involve a process architecture, a process performance measurement system, or a major redesign project. The solution need not involve software, but it will likely have a significant software component.
  • Best BPM Application that demonstrates the use of one or more business process standards. (e.g. UML® Activity Diagrams, BPMN™, BPDM, BPEL, BPMM, BMM, BPSB, SCOR)
This award will go to the application that demonstrates how one or more business process standards, or the technologies employing those standards, can contribute to process improvement at a company. The application could demonstrate the use of rules (BSBR), a maturity model (BPMM), modeling (BPMN) or the use of a BPMS solution based on BPEL, for example.
  • BPM Application that Demonstrates the Best Return on Investment
This award will go to the application that demonstrates the most impressive ROI on a business process change effort.

BPM Case Study Competition winners will be announced at the December 10, 2008 BPM Roundtable Forum quarterly event in Santa Clara, Calif., and will be featured on the Object Management Group and BPTrends websites. Submissions will be accepted through November 10, 2008. To submit your project to the BPM Case Study Competition and for full rules and guidance, visit http://www.bpmroundtable.org/cs-pr.
